Front End Web Designer

Full Time - Douglas, Isle of Man - Salary £32 - £42k (DOE)

Essential Skills

  • Strong, varied portfolio that demonstrates a good understanding of design for the web
  • Full working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite for web & print design
  • Ability to hand code both HTML(5) and CSS(3)
  • Understanding and implementation of jQuery
  • Understanding of SEO best practice & how this influences design/development
  • Strong working knowledge of information architecture, usability, and UI Design
  • Ability to test cross-browser/devices and fix any bugs
  • Experience using open source CMS and eCommerce platforms (e.g. Magento, Expression Engine, Wordpress)
  • Knowledge and/or experience of responsive web design
  • Minimum three years commercial experience

Day to Day Tasks

  • Develop an understanding of client website/design requirements
  • Follow and develop client briefs throughout while managing expectations
  • Liaise with clients and deliver progress reports when necessary to ensure deadlines are met
  • Interpret client website/design requirements into an attractive, usable solution
  • Work closely with the SEM team to ensure designs satisfy search requirements
  • Ensure brand continuity where applicable in accordance to company brand guidelines
  • Consider UX principles throughout the creative process
  • Articulate design concepts both internally and externally
  • Choose the best tool/software/platform for the job
  • Code approved designs in accordance with W3C standards
  • Full working knowledge of HTML, XHTML & CSS allowing for the creation and maintenance of both new and existing websites
  • Basic knowledge of PHP, XML and ability to work with jQuery
  • Manage & maintain back-end user systems to ensure websites remain functional
  • Create, maintain and manage design elements and promotional campaigns for both internal and external websites
  • Source imagery, content, video etc. to enhance user experience and engagement
  • Optimise imagery for web use, minimising file size while retaining quality
  • Test site layout and functionality in agreed browsers and resolve any coding issues
  • Research and follow new and developing trends within web and online design and implement into projects
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new processes as the industry and technologies evolve and attend training sessions and events when required to support career development
